Instrumental

WCS offers a variety of instrumental education and performance opportunities across all age groups. Each year, the elementary, middle school, and high school bands along with WCS strings, perform several concerts at WCS. There are additional performance opportunities in the community throughtout the year.

Band

Band classes at Whitinsville Christian School begin in 6th grade where students may choose a concert band instrument to join Beginning Band, and then Middle School Band in 7th and 8th grades.

Our High School Concert Band often combines with High School Orchestra for a symphonic band experience, including a biennial spring tour. WCS Bands perform classical, big-band, and jazz music, as well as film scores.

The bands enjoy several performance opportunities throughout the year, including the Christmas Concert and the Band Concert at the end of the school year. Band students may also participate in pep band, jazz ensemble, and pit orchestra for high school drama club musicals. Private instrumental lessons are available from highly qualified teachers on campus.

Strings

The mission of WCS Strings, which began in 1981, is to glorify God through music by working together to develop Christian character and gifts to joyfully serve others. WCS Strings students learn violin, viola, and cello using the Suzuki Method of instruction, which relies heavily on parent participation.

Beginning as young as 3 years old, students receive one private lesson and one group class per week, along with other opportunities throughout the year including: Pops concert, Christmas concert, Suzuki concert, community outreach concerts, Night of Music & Art (NOMA), solo recitals, string quartet gigs, pit orchestra for musicals, and a biennial tour.

WCS Strings includes several orchestras: Elementary Orchestra, Middle School Orchestra, High School Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra. Each year, WCS Strings students participate in the Central District Middle School and High School Music Festivals and often at the Massachusetts All-State Festival in Boston.

Strings Teachers: Tammy Kaye, Zachary Surapine, and Jamie Thiesing
