Supporting Students Who Learn Differently

Since 1984, Whitinsville Christian School has supported students with learning differences whose families desire a Christ-centered education. What began as The Discovery Program has grown over the past four decades into Student Academic Services (SAS), equipping students with the tools and support needed to access and thrive at WCS.

In 2024, Student Academic Services and our Health and Wellness Program were unified under one department: Educational Support Services (ESS). Together, these programs reflect our commitment to caring for the whole child – academically, spiritually, personally, socially, creatively and physically – while thoughtfully stewarding the resources entrusted to us as an inclusive Christian school community.

A Christ-Centered, Inclusive Learning Community

At Whitinsville Christian School, our mission calls us to provide a high-quality, college preparatory Christian education while nurturing a community where every student is known, valued, and supported.

Inspired by our faith, we believe each child is uniquely created in the image of God, gifted with individual strengths, abilities, and potential. Our Educational Support Services are designed to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually so they can fully participate in and benefit from the WCS experience. Our goal is to help students realize their abilities so they can move toward independence and experience success inside and outside the classroom.

Our Commitment to Students

We are both inclusive and college preparatory. This means:

  • We welcome a range of learners across all grade levels.
  • We provide academic support through our Student Academic Services Team.
  • We offer social/emotional support through our Health and Wellness Team.
  • We collaborate closely with parents, local public school districts, and outside professionals.
  • We implement reasonable accommodations and modifications to help students access our curriculum.
  • We foster a genuine sense of belonging for every student in our community.

Students who thrive at WCS typically:

  • Come from families who support education delivered from a Reformed Christian worldview.
  • Demonstrate the potential to engage with and benefit from our college preparatory curriculum.
  • Are able to access instruction with reasonable support.
  • Have the social, emotional, and behavioral readiness to navigate the school day with minimal interventions.

While we are committed to supporting a range of learners, we recognize that we cannot always guarantee implementation of every educational or therapeutic plan in full. As an independent Christian school, our resources, staffing, and program structure differ from those of public school districts. There may be times when a student’s individualized plan requires services or levels of support that exceed what we are able to provide.

In such cases, we approach the situation with humility, transparency, and care. Our goal is always what is best for the child. When appropriate, we will honestly communicate if we believe a student may be better served in another educational setting equipped with more specialized resources.

How We Support Students

Our Educational Support Services may include:

  • Academic skill development and remediation
  • Classroom accommodations and instructional modifications
  • Collaborative support and co-teaching models
  • Consultation with families and outside specialists
  • Partnership with local public school districts when appropriate

We believe inclusive education strengthens our entire community. All students benefit from learning alongside peers with diverse strengths and needs. Through this environment, students develop empathy, patience, resilience, and a deeper understanding of one another.

A Community That Grows Together

Being an inclusive school community offers many blessings:

  • A diverse learning environment strengthens our classrooms.
  • Co-teaching and collaborative models enrich instruction for all students.
  • Families seeking Christian education for children with learning differences have access to meaningful support.
  • Students learn acceptance, kindness, and perseverance through shared experience.
  • Support systems are in place for needs that may emerge after early childhood.

At WCS, we are committed to walking alongside families, seeking wisdom, and stewarding our resources faithfully so that students can flourish academically and spiritually.

If you have questions about our Educational Support Services or would like to discuss your child’s needs, we welcome a conversation.
